Question 1 – Which product type?

Every nappy on the market is either a one part or a two part nappy.

One part nappies Two part nappies
Like a disposable, you only have one part to put on. They can be either pocket nappies which involve simple assembly or all in one nappies where everything is sewn together – nothing more to do!

They are brilliantly easy to use but do not absorb as much and are not as reliable as two part nappies. Adding a natural fibre booster pad can help with the absorbency (link to booster pads) but you will need to change them more often than two part nappies.

If you have a light to medium wetter then this will not be a problem as the nappy will last (potentially with boosting) until the next nappy change (A newborn baby has very thin, sensitive skin and needs to be changed frequently every two and a half to three hours. You will change less frequently as your baby gets older)

However, if you have a medium to heavy wetter you may find you are changing every couple of hours which might be more than you want to.
You have two separate layers. The absorbent nappy and a waterproof wrap over the top. However, they only take seconds longer than a one part nappy to put on.

As there are two layers they contain everything (including newborn soiling) and can be left on longer than a one part nappy.

They are virtually 100% reliable (much more reliable than a disposable) and if you need extra absorbency they can easily be boosted to last as long as you need - link to booster pads.

You do not need to wash the whole thing each time, you will usually wash the nappy but re-use the wrap a few times before putting it in the wash.

Night time use – most parents find that they need to use a two part nappy at night. This will give you night after night of leak free performance.

Birth to potty (BTP) versus multi size nappies

Both one part and two part nappies can be either cut to fit from birth to potty training and you therefore only buy one size. Or they are multi size - i.e. you buy different sizes as your baby grows.

When deciding which type to buy there are two aspects to consider:

Bulkiness Longevity
Birth to potty (BTP) nappies are cut to fit toddler size and then you fold them or popper them down to fit a smaller size.

We only sell very adjustable BTP nappies to ensure you get a good fit at all stages of your babies development.

However, BTP nappies will always be slightly bulkier than multi size nappies as you are folding down a bigger size nappy to fit a smaller child.

In comparison, a multi size nappy has just the right fabric for your baby at that point in time.
If you are planning more children then you will probably want to make sure you can use your nappies on your next child.

One part birth to potty nappies will generally only last one baby as you are washing the waterproof element every few days for 2-3 years so it will start to give way a little after this extensive use.

One part multi size nappies are more expensive upfront but are only used for a period of your baby’s nappy life so put up with less wear and tear. They should therefore last more than one baby.

Two part nappies will last many babies as the waterproof element (the wrap) is separate so can easily be replaced if it wears out.
